Melissa Bring featured Photographer on Logo Networks, “The Arrangement”
When I was asked, to be featured as the on camera photographer for “The Arrangement” I was slightly hesitant. When I found out it would include shooting RuPaul’s Drag Queens, I did a mini dance on the other end of the phone and casually & calmly said YES! I didn’t want to seem too thrilled and have Logo Network question if I’d be a crazy fan. So… I played it cool.
On the shoot day, my digital tech and friend Pamela along with my lighting assistant and business partner Kyle and I showed up ready to work. We were given 30 minutes to set up lights, digital and do a quick test. Once we were set up we made our way to craft services (as you do) to wait until our on camera moment. As excited as I was to be a part of the shoot, being in front of the camera is not the most natural place for me. Getting prepped in my head to “act normal” I was tapped on the shoulder to be mic’ed up. I simply looked at the PA and politely replied with “oh, I don’t have any lines. I am just the photographer.” The PA laughed and said, “This is a reality show, so the producers will be telling you what to say and how to react.” With that said… I put in my wireless ear piece and did a sound check to make sure I could hear the director and producer notes in my right ear. With chatter in my right ear, and chatter in front of me I realized I couldn’t clearly make out what anyone was saying.
Next thing I know we are standing by on stage and I am out to be introduced to the panel of florists that were competing with one another. At this time, the florist know they have to come up with a great floral arrangement for the “Set” that will be photographed with a model. The models walk in from the back and the mouths of the assistants drop! The RuPaul Drag Queens strut their stuff as they stand beside each florist they are assigned.
After a quick intro we all took position and quickly got to work as you can see from the video here.
The experience gave me a real sense of just how wide of range my career options truly are. I loved being on set… and even was okay with the conversation between one of the florist. I mean… who doesn’t appreciate drama on a reality show!!
